The one thing
01The loudest thing on the internet today is a v0.3.0 alpha that needs a second alpha underneath it.
AX, Google's declarative orchestrator for agent workloads, hit the Hacker News front page at 23:04 UTC and took 379 points and 138 comments.3 The repository is Apache 2.0 and was created on 30 March; the newest release, v0.3.0, was published at 03:33 UTC on 20 September, two and a half hours before this window opened.2 Its README opens with a warning that the project will introduce major breaking changes before a stable release, and external pull requests are paused while the core is stabilised.1
Deploying it takes a Kubernetes cluster, ko, a container registry, and a reachable Agent Substrate Control API.1 Agent Substrate is a separate repository, and its own README says it is not an officially supported Google product and is not ready for production use, with APIs that are almost guaranteed to change.4
go install the CLI and read the concepts doc if the density argument interests you. Nothing here survives a migration plan yet. What AX actually gives you, and what it costs to get there
Four primitives, all ax.io/v1alpha1 manifests applied with a kubectl-shaped CLI: Task for an isolated sandbox with CPU and memory limits, Workspace to pre-wire Git repos and MCP servers before a task boots, Gateway for an outbound host allowlist, and Model for credentials from a Kubernetes secret. ax suspend and ax resume checkpoint an idle agent; ax ssh shells into a running one when the task sets spec.debug: true.1
The density claim belongs to the layer below. Agent Substrate multiplexes stateful actors onto a small pool of pre-warmed worker pods and snapshots the idle ones, keeping the Kubernetes API server off the scheduling path. We did not measure any of this, and neither repository publishes a benchmark we could open.

01Worktrunk 0.79.0 changes what `--no-cd -x` runs against
wt switch --no-cd -x <program> started the program in the invoking directory, so anything meant for the new worktree had to be handed {{ worktree_path }} explicitly. From 0.79.0 --no-cd governs only your shell, and the program runs in the worktree — wt switch feature --no-cd -x code -- . opens the worktree in an editor and leaves your terminal where it was. The release notes carry the breakage in their own words: a program that wanted the invoking directory now needs an explicit cd. Published 01:01 UTC.5

Orca v1.4.206, 22:50 UTC, adds OpenCode 2 support and searchable agent session history across machines. Its first release since the rule admitted it to the watchlist this morning, and unevaluated by us.[^6]
The conversation
01Everybody is building the same agent sandbox, and nothing has converged.
- Hacker News, in 138 comments on the AX threadreader-posted and unverified — no claim here was confirmed against a vendor page
One commenter asked what workflow people are converging on, having been running agents in Proxmox VMs with a dotfiles script. The reply: no convergence is happening, everyone has written an agent framework, and people are stepping over each other to ship. A second thread disputed the headline itself — the repository sits under github.com/google and describes itself as Google's, which several readers read as more institutional backing than a project whose dependency disclaims official support.3
The naming argument matters less than the dependency. A tool that carries a breaking-change warning is ordinary at v0.3.0; a tool whose required substrate carries its own is a second source of churn on a schedule you do not control. Check what sits under the thing before you check who owns it.
Hacker News ran as the community layer: 37 stories cleared 60 points inside the window, most of them off this beat. The X layers did not run today — the newest file in both digests is dated 2026-09-20 05:30 UTC, roughly 24 hours old and collected before this window opened, so both were read as background only; the account roster watches about 100 accounts. No Reddit digest exists for today either, and the live fallback sweep across six practitioner subreddits returned zero posts above its floor.
