Sol Ultrafast is available. Measure the whole coding loop before changing the default.
OpenAI’s 8 October API entry makes Ultrafast available for gpt-6.1-sol through the Responses API with service_tier: "ultrafast". It supports global processing and US and EU data residency, subject to rate limits. 1
Use it where waiting for generated tokens limits a checked task. Keep the same prompt, effort, tool environment and acceptance test, then compare time to accepted output and billed cost. Faster generation can leave tests, dependency installs, review and permission waits unchanged.
Keep a route back to the existing tier. Before broad rollout, confirm the price and regional processing configuration for the actual account and request size. The primary pricing page has multiple tier tables; a copied Standard row would give the wrong budget.
A model-speed announcement is enough to justify a bounded evaluation. It is insufficient evidence for moving every repository task or background agent onto a new tier.
Compare accepted-task time and cost on a fixed workload; change the default only after that comparison.
